Fandom Anniversary

I posted my first IY fanfic in 2006, twelve years ago today. I’ve often marked the milestone by posting new stories or updating ongoing ones on this day. This time, I’ll begin posting Mood Stripes to fanfiction.net. (A new chapter will show up here soon, too. Hang tight.)

Random Fandom Factuals:

  • My first chaptered fic (that would be Unsought) was Mir/Kag. For nostalgia’s sake, they remain my “official” InuYasha OTP.
  • Once in a while I’ll write a canon pairing, but I’m mostly an alt. shipper. I like possibilities. I ship around.
  • For me, shipping doesn’t always mean a romantic relationship. My stories also embrace friendship, mentorship, and kinship.
  • Hisoka-sensei exists because I wrote a oneshot called The Bargain. By the time that story was finished, I’d already begun plotting Unspoiled, which became a Big Deal. Wanting to give the good Sensei his proper due, I dreamed up the Amaranthine Saga. Now, he rules two universes. ::twinkle::
  • My first brush with fanart joy came courtesy of Jupe, who doodled every chapter of Impeccable. Since then, I’ve seen hundreds of sketches and illustrations for my stories. Artists are awesomely amazing. ::glomp::
  • Impeccable was my first story with 100-word chapters. It started quite the trend.
  • InuYasha is my first fandom, but I have written for others (Spirited Away, Ouran High School Host Club, YuYu Hakusho, Darker than BLACK) and am in the process of contributing stories to new (to me) fandoms. Because I still like goofing off. For me, writing is both work and play.
  • Even though my earliest stories make me cringe a little, I won’t take them down. They’re a testament to my clumsy, clunky beginnings. Looking back, I catch glimmers of the writer I’m still becoming.

Since we’re being all nostalgic, think back. Which of my stories did you first discover?

  1. I also do that, not deleting my old stories. They suck, but it’s a good ‘before/after’ comparison.

I think I first saw you in the DtB fandom. Wasn’t into IY at those days, so it didn’t occur to me then that it was you. It’s a small world~!

    What’s your new fandom?

  2. The Dark and Stormy Knight was the first story I read from you. I just remember laughing so hard and thinking you were creative and so funny, lol!

      • So much truth cannot be denied with a straight face. πŸ˜‹
After reading some of your other works, I was utterly charmed by the pure romance you are able to weave between your characters. It truly is a pleasure and time well spent when I sit down to read one of your stories. Thank-you for sharing your gift!

  3. I believe either Unexpexted or Froth was my first introduction to the wonder that was you and your stories…. it’s been so long, I can’t quite remember which it was! Then you finally convinced me to try out those alt ships you’re so fond of with the start of Impeccable. That was the story I first joined you on consistent updates! And now I’ve never looked back πŸ˜†

  4. For me it was Unspoiled and I fell in love instantly! Especially since the time-travel trope is one of my main guilty pleasures…
I have been rereading your stories every year at least once since then, especially the SxK ones. It has been about six years now. πŸ™‚

    • Unspoiled kind of exploded. I think I gained a lot of new readers through that story.

…I reread my own stories from time to time. You know what they say. “Write the book you want to read.”

  5. One of my closest friends introduced me to your brilliant fanfic writings only last year, and by that time I’d been out of the IY fandom for years. But her recommendation led me to read Lord Charming which I absolutely loved, then Unspoiled. After that I loved a lot of smaller IY works you’ve written, from Troved to Tolerable, Kissing Bandit, and Pale Shadows. I adore Hisoka-sensei (one of my all time fave OCs now) and LOVE that he’s been adapted into the Amarantherine Saga, which is now one of my favorite original series reads. πŸ™‚

    • Ever since Unspoiled, I’ve had so many requests to write the Hisoka x Kagome pairing … a fanfic of my own fanfic, I guess. I’m much happier making a place for him in the Amaranthine Saga.

  6. Hello!

I first fell into “Troved” quite by accident around 4 years ago which led me by the heart into “Lord Charming”, and I’m proud to say I haven’t missed an update since! I’ve read every fanfiction of yours (including the stories on your other account), and I’ve even gotten to know some other writers through your work (*ahem**shy wave over to Fenikkusuken*). πŸ™‚ I am unbiased in my pairings, but I do have a certain cannon ship in mind for my favorite. “Unexpected” has surprisingly risen to the top of my rankings. I revisit it every year around this time because of the warm nostalgia it brings me of my own school experience. I remember nights of mud-soaked jeans, runny noses and the excitement of getting lost in corn mazes with my friends during the autumn, and your writing takes me back to those days.

Congratulations on everything you’ve accomplished, Forthy! Here’s to another twelve years (or more!) of unexpected undertakings…to those who hereby disclaim all rights and responsibilities for the characters in another whimsical tale…and especially to the one who perseveres. πŸ™‚

    With lots of admiration,

    • I get a lot of requests to pick up Unexpected again, and I will. Eventually. That story is languishing more for lack of time than for lack of ideas. I have the rest of the story roughed in, but those janitors will have to wait their turn.

  8. Which story, you ask? Haven’t got a clue, as I’ve read SO many over the years. πŸ˜›
BUT, I can tell you that I also found you and your stories from being a fan of Fennikusuken. πŸ™‚

  9. Happy anniversary!! I still can’t believe it’s been twelve years. It’s so long, but I don’t feel like it’s been more than a handful. Let’s see, the first story you wrote that I read was ‘Inevitable’. I came in after you posted the fourth chapter. I started reading ‘Unsought’ around that time as well. I think that Fennikusuken and Kilala81 led me to your page. It’s been a fun ride. To twelve more!!

  10. I think I found you while looking st new stories on Dokuga. Lord Charming just sounded like too much fun and it was my first, then I read Unspoiled. After looking at your list on fan fiction, I am woefully behind and must work harder at catching up on your delightful stories. I love your playful sense of humor. Your stories never fail to make me smile. I wish you many more years of musings. You fully deserve all the success that comes your way.

  11. When I first started to read fanfictions I was a hardcore canon shipper. I couldn’t even think about reading any fic that didn’t have Inu/Kag ship. But then I stumbled upon Imperceptible and I fell for it…hard. You have that magic in you to make any ship alive, make any scenario alive with your writing that even if the character is OOC than canon we don’t feel like that it is. In fact as if that is how the character should have been. And the subtle humor, wit and wordplays…yes i’m talking about Matching Wits..are just amazing. In fact your stories that made me read many ships that aren’t canon and have a look at the gems I might have ignored due to my obnoxiousness. It certainly made me more open minded. And then I started to pen my own works, they were silly. but you were the inspiration behind it.
i’m lucky that I found you. And wish you the best with your own original works. Let’s see…maybe someday we’ll be writing fanfics out of your own original series πŸ™‚
    Kind reagrds
    Take care

  12. Froth was my first, 5 years ago. A friend wisely suggested I start there, since it was short and had bite-sized chapters. What she really wanted me to read was Unspoiled. It didn’t take me long to read that after I read Froth, though I admit I was skeptical about alternate pairings at the time!

  13. I first discovered you through fanart of Unexpected. Janitor Inu Yasha siting in a tree looking slightly grumpy. I was charmed and saw it was art for a story. I went to the link and began to read and was hooked ever since. And that was years ago!! At least 8 years ago. I can’t remember if it was 9 or 10 because of weird college/moving around times. I have moved three times since I have discovered you and you were always one of my biggest reasons to getting my internet hooked up as fast a possible LOL!

Unexpected is still one of my favorites and I can’t wait to see what you plan to do with it when you get the chance to write more. You have no idea how excited I was when I found out that there was MUCH more to Inu Yasha and Shippo in this AU than just very charming janitors! I seriously screamed once it was confirmed! I love your other fics but as I said this is the one I really love the most for many reasons lol. Of course I reread all of them LOL

I’ve read all of your fics even if I’m not into the fandom because I love what and how you write so when you stated you were writing a original novel I freaked out. It makes me so happy that in a way I’ve been watching you grow as a writer. I’m excited to see where you’ll go from here and excited to see what worlds you keep making, be it fics or your own stories!

  14. Since I saw someone else mention it Kissing Bandit was my second read of yours because I have a thing for stories about detectives and thieves though it didn’t turn out how I thought it would be. I loved it, I really thought Miroku was going to be the thief in some twist in the end LOL Btw I feel like the Kissing Bandit is going to be one of your stories for the future, I’m just guessing and have no proof on it. Just that I think it’d be interesting to see what you’d do with that LOL

  15. I first started reading your stories on fanfiction.net. I checked my reviews, and it appears that I was reading “Imperceptible” and “Impeccable” when I first discovered you. I must have stalked for a while before I reviewed because I think my first review was chapter 71. I came across a review I did for Vassal; It still breaks my heart. I never could figure out where you were going with that one (hint, hint)…I also remember writing a review where I thought you must be a professional writer because your stories were perfect. Prophetic πŸ˜‰
