LMM 603: Taking a Call

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the shaken one.

TIME SKIP

Early in the spring of 11 N.S., a little more than a year before
Kyrie and Lilya will attend summer courses at Wardenclave,
which means Stately House is setting up for the fourth book
in the Amaranthine Saga, Mikoto and the Reaver Village.

Taking a Call

Michael was looking unusually discombobulated when Jacques opened to his knock and beckoned him through. He’d been mired in correspondence all morning, so Michael’s arrival was a welcome break from the tedium. Except for one tiny detail.

“Lord, you’re shaking.”

Argent strode forward. “What has happened?”

“I just took a call,” Michael said, holding up his phone. “From Timur.”

“Is he hurt?” Argent asked darkly.

“No, no! No, he’s fine. Well, not fine.”

Silver tails unfurled as Argent firmly guided Michael to the sofa, “Sit. Tell us. What has you addled?”

Michael’s gaze pleaded with Argent. “Timur…. He was crying.”
