LMM 588: Probably Nothing

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the cold one.

Probably Nothing

When Colt ambled to a stop in woods, Jacques assumed they’d reached Stately House’s outermost barrier. His extremities were numb, so when Ginkgo sprang onto Colt’s back to take his dad, Jacques had trouble letting go.

“Easy does it,” Ginkgo murmured, gently prying cold fingers. “You did good.”

“Nothing to it,” he assured wearily.

“Good thing Deece is here.” Turning slightly, the half-fox quietly ordered, “Better carry Jacques.” Then took off.

Jacques asked, “So… were we followed?”

Hallow hesitated. “It was probably nothing.”

“Lord, have it your way. But was it nothing like a dragon? Or nothing like a fox?”
