The Truth Will Out

“Why?” Jacques frowned. “How can you tell?”

“Little whispers. Distant songs.”

“And… who sings to you?”

Inti drew back, shrewdly searching Jacques’ face. In the faint light of the softly twinkling ceiling, he glared warnings. “Do not laugh.”

“Lord, you know I won’t. You’re too much of a handful to take anything but seriously.”

Patting his cheek, Inti crooned, “Good, good, good man.”

“Good? Hardly.” Drumming his fingers lightly over Inti’s ribs, he warned, “Like the true cad I am, I’ll tickle the truth out of you.”

There was a smile in his small voice. “Stars. Inti sometimes hears stars.”
