After years of careful tailoring, Jacques’ devotion fit. Closing his eyes, Jacques basked in the knowledge that Argent both knew him well… and genuinely cared. Theirs was a mutual attachment.

“I’ve had the loveliest day. Thanks to you.”

Argent gave his shoulder a light pat. “You cannot go without greeting Jiminy. He has offered his den for the night.”

“Are you trying to keep me from Harrison?”

“No. You have always chosen well for yourself.” Argent held Jacques’ gaze until he could do nothing but believe him. “Your presence was specifically requested. It seems a mutual acquaintance is in town.”
