Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one with a day job.

Tough Nut
Armed with a to-go cup from Founders, personally poured by Rook, Jacques entered the bakery next door, where redheads ruled the day. Only to realize—quite belatedly—that he knew the person transferring muffins into the display case.
“Welcome to Tough Nut Bakery!” And in teasing tones, “Your face.”
“Spokesperson Woodacre,” he murmured. “I didn’t realize you… baked.”
“Denny. Please.” One of the most prominent Amaranthine in America offered his hand and asked, “What can I get you, Jacques?”
He skipped to the crux of his visit. “Kip.”
“That rascal? He doesn’t drop by often, but… well! You’re in luck.”
