LMM 563: But Soft

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the early bird.

But Soft

“Pardon my intrusion.”

Jacques opened an eye and huskily drawled, “But soft, what bird through yonder window breaks.”

Juuyu’s gaze was carefully averted. “You did not return home.”

“Are you actually flustered? You needn’t be.” He gave Harrison’s shoulder a squeeze. “Come, sir. Show proof of my innocence, lest yon phoenix suspect debauchery.”

“Jacques? Mmm. Morning. Wait. Did you say… phoenix? Oh, gosh. Hello!” Harrison threw aside his half of their shared afghan—proving he was fully dressed—and hurried to greet the stranger crouched on his windowsill. He earnestly assured, “No debauchery here. Though Swifty’s counts as hedonism. Coffee?”
