Contextual Clues

Jacques angled his chin just so.

Sonnet was staring, and not in a way that begged him to stop.

So he went one better, adding a hand gesture. Feline again, but Sonnet had enough contextual clues to catch his meaning.

“Is that…? Jacques!”

“Hmm?”  

“Not in front of the baby!”

“Pish-tosh. Vanya will be glad to know he was born into a loving home.”

She gasped, then tittered, then finally relaxed into a sheepish smile. “Must you tease?”

“It’s only teasing until you slip out of your shoes.”

Her jaw dropped.

He chuckled.

Then Sonnet whispered, “Right, then. They’re off.”
