“They’ve added several new words to the French dictionary!” Isla was now fluent enough to talk at full speed. “Most are specific to the In-between, and I need to know them all.”

“Show me the list. We can practice.”

Isla whisked to her father’s desk and set out her books. “We shall! But first—and this is top secret—Kimi’s set the date for her next kiss, which is why Sensei’s schedule has changed.”

They compared calendars and renegotiated sleep schedules. But before Isla could return to lexicial interests, Jacques casually asked, “How much do you know about the packs?”
