Tail Tucked

Jacques relaxed into a smile and a submissive posture. “Why so grim?”

“This feels… inappropriate?”

“Which part? Because I thought wolves kipped in company.”

“That’s… true.”

“Is it me?” checked Jacques. “I’ve been called inappropriate on many occasions.”

Sonnet’s tail tucked, butting against Jacques’ thigh.

Jacques carefully pushed loose hair aside to try to read Sonnet’s expression. “Did we cross a line earlier?”

“No.”

“Did you want to cross a line?”

Sonnet finally said, “Maybe that’s it. This feels like… trysting.”

“But it’s not?”

“No…?”

So much uncertainty.

“If you’re curious about more than my tattoos, I won’t be miffed.”
