Jacques sat up front with Cat so that Argent could use the car ride to confer with Canarian, who was no mere personal assistant. Whenever Canarian was involved, things got done.
“I hear you visited Evernhold.” Cat remarked.
“Deece brought me ’round.”
Cat took a leading tone. “Enjoy your visit?”
“Lord. What have you heard?”
“Nothing too specific. Next time, bring me along.”
“Whatever for?”
With a sultry smile, Cat said, “You’re not the only one who enjoys canoodling.”
“You… and your stepmother’s consorts?”
“Wouldn’t you?” His eyebrows arched. “Did you?”
Jacques held up thumb and forefinger.
Cat chortled. “Details!”
