Kagome wasn’t sure what was taking so long. Inuyasha wasn’t one to dawdle, but he’d scruffed Shippo and carried him off for a private word. She’d half-expected the hanyou to grab her and catapult through time, getting it over with, but maybe this was better.
Crossing to Sesshoumaru, she asked, “Will you be okay?”
After some consideration, he asked, “Will you return?”
“Yes. I promise.”
“Then set aside your concerns.” His knuckles brushed her cheek. “Only look forward.”
His cheek stripes had deepened to a blue she associated with trust. “Will you hold onto something until I come back home?”
