In a Hurry

“Yeah, yeah. Been a while.” Nonny reset his hooves and squared his shoulders. “You look like Jacques just said something sketchy. Want me to make him take it back?”

Suuzu’s posture shifted three ways before murmuring, “You… grew.”

Jacques stated the obvious. “Nonny’s been taking a more human approach to adolescence.”

The kid was likely fourteen or fifteen. His face had lost its soft curves, and he was steadily gaining centimeters while the other crossers had stalled out.

The phoenix warbled mournfully.

“Aww, hell. Don’t go all soppy on my account. I was in a hurry to grow up anyhow.”
