Say Something Sooner
They moved to the garden. Open air offered better lighting and the polish meant fumes. Nonny’s grip on their chosen bench looked tight enough to crack the stone, and Jacques sighed.
“I do know what I’m doing.”
“Says you.”
“Calm down.”
Nonny grumbled, “Who says I’m not?”
Just then, Ginkgo strode over, nose twitching. “What’s up, you two?”
“Hoof trimming.” Jacques indicated his supplies. “Then we’ll add a bit of shine.”
“So that’s what’s got you so skittish.” The half-fox dropped to a seat beside Nonny. “Mind if I watch?”
Jacques wilted inwardly. “You’re scared enough he could smell it?”
