Kagome knew Sesshoumaru wasn’t talking about murder. He wasn’t being cryptic or mysterious. A life for a life. His for her. Hers for him.
“I don’t know how to respond.”
“There is time.”
The gazing resumed, and Kagome slowly relaxed. Her idling thought circled around to practical things. “Were we supposed to be doing something?”
“We await my brother’s decision about shelter.”
Kagome had been wondering, so she asked, “Why are you letting him decide.”
“He is our leader.”
So strange, given their past. “How did that happen?”
Sesshoumaru took his time answering. “Perhaps because he did not demand it.”

i love the development of sesshomaru and inuyasha’s relationship almost as much as sesshomaru and kagome’s, it’s so delightful to read.

Sesshoumaru knows that he’s at a disadvantage, and it’s taken him this long to realize it. To realize that he has to rely on Inuyasha to help protect the others, and himself from danger, where before he could easily dispatch enemies by himself, is a hard pill to swallow for so proud a youkai.
He’s come to realize that his *little brat of a brother* has grown up and shown the responsibility worthy (in his eyes) of their father’s bloodline. 🙂

Inuyasha has earned his respect and trust. That’s a big step for Sesshomaru to relinquish that to his brother. It also seems to have given him a chance to relax and enjoy the moment.
