Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one with a story.

In Essence
“Old habit.” Sonnet fiddled with his teacup. “Are you an orphan? I have some experience raising orphans.”
“I’m afraid it’s far too late to bring me up properly.” Jacques sipped. “I have a stalwart father and a silly mother and a priggish brother who is the pinnacle of perfection in our maman’s eyes. But they’re not my family. Not anymore.”
Sonnet’s shoulders squared. “I understand exactly.”
“Tell me about your orphans.”
What a story.
Jacques was utterly diverted. “So in essence… you’re a clan-fluid, cross-dressing virgin mother. And you cook.”
Sonnet tittered. “Oh, go on.”
“I might be in love.”
