Pish Tosh
They descended en masse, lively in the manner of children who’ve had too much cake. Except for Mori. Eyes on Suuzu, the boy hid behind Deece.
“What’s wrong?”
“It may be instinct,” suggested Deece. “Suuzu is a bird of prey.”
Jacques studied Mori. “And you’re prey?”
The boy wibbled. “Mouse clan.”
“Pish tosh.” Jacques couldn’t help smiling. “Mori, my lad, you don’t have a predator complex. You’re just shy.”
“How do you know?”
“Because you’re part mouse, and he’s all cat.”
Mori looked up at Deece and actually giggled. It was nice to see some sparkle in his too-old eyes.
