Let’s Not Quibble

Lord Mettlebright lofted them skyward in a swirl of silver fur. Jacques wasn’t even a little bit tempted by those tails.

“Peace and trust walk hand in hand,” intoned Argent.

“Two things are very wrong with that statement,” Jacques snipped. “First, we’re not holding hands.”

“You are the one who let go.”

Jacques’ arms tightened around Argent’s shoulders. “Second, we’re not walking. Mon dieu. Have you always been able to do this?”

“Since boyhood, but not always.”

Jacques sobered at this reminder of Argent’s enslavement.

“And now that you are listening,” said the fox. “There is more. Hear me out.”
