Simple Pleasures
Jacques impulsively added, “And I want Bon-Bon to be jealous.”
“That one may be difficult.” Argent’s gaze drifted out of focus. “Your brother rarely looks any farther than the reflection in his mirror. Your triumphs will likely languish beneath his notice.”
Giggling softly, Jacques confided, “He can always tell when I’m happy.”
Something in Argent’s expression shifted. “Happiness is your ambition?”
“Oui.”
“A vague goal.”
“But easily reached.”
Argent’s heat tilted. “You believe you can be happy here?”
With an injured look, Jacques declared, “I’ve been happy several times this evening. And having your undivided attention hasn’t dampened my mood.”
