Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the potential whistleblower.

Mother Tongue
As the young crosser’s onslaught grew increasingly articulate, Jacques reassessed his impressions. Seven, perhaps eight. Small, but husky. Sad, yet frustrated. With his father. At this foreign place. And by the cat who’d carried him off.
“Is he a terrible brute?” asked Jacques, eyeing Hisoka Twineshaft suspiciously.
The rant ceased as quickly as it had begun. Jacques noted that Gilen’s pupils were round, lending them a reassuring touch of humanity.
“French,” the boy breathed.
“Half,” Jacques conceded. “On my mother’s side. Are you in need of assistance? Because if Monsieur Twineshaft has been a terrible brute, I’ll report him immediately.”
