Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one who was a right little tyrant.

This Same Dread
“I know how Kyrie came to us,” said Gingko.
Jacques didn’t want to discuss his nightmares.
“And I can understand why you’re scared. The little guy’s related to the monster who hurt your family. But Kyrie’s not a monster any more than you are.”
“Pardon?”
“This… your revulsion. It’s probably really similar to how Dad felt about you and the other Uppington Smythes, his tyrants and tormentors.”
Jacques whispered, “Argent thinks I’m a monster?”
Gingko’s ears drooped. “I just said you’re not.”
But all of Jacques’ bravado was flowing away, leaving clarity and despair. I’m the dragon in Argent’s nightmares.

Ah poor Jacques. It’s hard to find out you’re someone else’s worst nightmare. He is having to relearn all his truths. Great chapter.
