“Take him back.” Jacques didn’t want to be near the source of so much dread, pain, and fear. He tried to push the baby away, but Gingko didn’t waver.
Warm hands steadied his shaking ones. “About school. Dad says you should be at university.”
“I dropped out.” He risked a glance at the baby—scales, spots, claws—and quailed.
“Michael’s starting a school here. We’re enrolling you.”
“What kind of school.”
“Non-traditional.”
“For crossers,” accused Jacques.
“And butlers.”
“You expect me to mingle with Argent’s precious orphans?”
Gingko frowned. “They won’t be orphans anymore. Once they’re here, they’ll be ours.”
