Galleries of Stone

News Flash! Because of a last-minute shuffle in his schedule, Travis Baldree’s narration of the third book in the Galleries of Stone trilogy by C.J. Milbrandt has been pulled to … TOMORROW! I’m always recommending this cozy fantasy series (it’s even linked on this blog’s sticky post: Want MOAR? Try this highly recommended series >>), in part because (dun, dun, dunnnn) I wrote it. (CJ is one of my other pen names.) Naturally, I always recommend starting a trilogy at the beginning, but if you want a free sample & to meet Tupper, Freydolf, and the rest … drop by in the morning for LIVE narration! ::twinkle::

How do you listen? You’ll need to join Travis’s Discord server, Cryptid Audio: https://discord.gg/duzCS2D Most days, he starts his sessions between 8am-9am. I’ll be there early. Hope you can drop in, too!

Narration

Audio Book. Travis Baldree will begin narration for the audio edition of Pimiko and the Uncharted Island this week. It’s looking like a Wednesday start, so if you want to listen in, you’ll need to join his Discord server. Book 6 is also currently available for pre-order (digital edition, Amazon/Kindle version). Release Day is October 22, 2022.

. . .

P.S. “Hearth slippers” were first referenced in Governed by Whimsy (Songs of the Amaranthine, #4). They’re definitely a thing for the feline clans, but most especially for hearthcats. ::solemn wink::

Audio Book Sale

The marketing folks at Recorded Books have alerted me to a sale on the first book in the Amaranthine Saga. Starting today, you can get Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox, narrated by Travis Baldree, for 75% off the retail price. This is a limited-time sale, running through the month of July. Here’s a link to the sale page.

If you haven’t heard Travis’s narration of the Saga (and Songs) yet, you’re in for a treat. Snag a copy for yourself!

Audio Release

Galleries of Stone. The first book in the Galleries of Stone trilogy has released as an audio book. These stories have long been my comfort reads (yes, I’m entirely biased), but having the tale narrated by Travis Baldree brings the whole experience to a new level. If you haven’t already heard about this trilogy, it’s a gently-paced sort of story. Slice-of-Life. Cozy Fantasy. But as it goes along, aspirations crop up. To quote Aurelius Harrow, it has ambitions, but they’re deucedly small ones. If you trust my storytelling, try this, too. Book 1 is called … Meadowsweet.

A magical master sculptor banished from his homeland
hires the only Flox boy with the nubs to take his hand.

Story Summary. In places where the Twelve Mountains are honored for their magic, children are tested for affinity. But the villages in Morven’s foothills no longer remember stone lore. The Flox have forgotten the Statuary and the wonders that fill its winding galleries. All that remains are stories to frighten children and gossip about a monster living in the heights.
Necessity drives Freydolf to hire a Flox servant. Tupper Meadowsweet isn’t the cleverest child, but he’s brave enough to follow his Pred master onto Morven, where he finds hints of faraway lands, diverse races, unique customs, long histories … and danger.

Day 3

Narration Continues. Travis Baldree will continue his narration of Flattered by Flowers: The Anthology this morning. There’s a bit left of Captured on Film. He’s doing amazing things with the Dare brothers. Then, he’ll dive into Bathed in Moonlight. Anyone else looking forward to wolves, moon maids, and Opulence Windlore? ::twinkle::

I hope you can join the fun! I explained the HOW TO on this post, from when Travis narrated Galleries of Stone.

Narration Session

Imminent. As many of you know by now, there are audio editions of both the Amaranthine Saga and the Songs of the Amaranthine collection. Travis Baldree does a splendid job of bringing my assorted casts to life, and he lets folks listen in (and watch) while he does his thing. Since my turn on his docket is coming up in a couple of days, I’m inviting you to join in on the fun. You’ll need Discord. Let’s see. I explained the HOW TO on this post, from when he narrated Galleries of Stone.

The recordings will likely take four days (Friday, February 18 – Monday, February 21). Travis will be reading the four short stories in the next Songs of the Amaranthine anthology:

  • Hemmed in Silver
  • Captured on Film
  • Bathed in Moonlight
  • Flattered by Flowers

Fair Warning: He will NOT be reading Flattered by Flowers live, since I want to keep that tale under wraps until 4/4, when it’ll have its digital-only release. You can currently pre-order Flattered by Flowers on Amazon. It’ll show up in other venues soon. Flattered by Flowers: The Anthology will release in print & audio on May 22, 2022. I won’t start taking orders for signed copies until May 1, 2022.

Which of these four short stories are you MOST looking forward to (and why)?
