Jacques knew dragons craved compliments, so he didn’t stint. Neither did he struggle. Dragons out-lustered crown jewels and spoke in stirring tones.
“Bless me. It’s impossible to pick a favorite color.”
Lord Trystholm’s fuchsia-streaked carmine. Lord Shywind’s peach tresses and turquoise eyes. Lord Yonkeep’s deep greens and deeper dimples.
He may have been immune to sway, but Jacques didn’t bother hiding his interest. And they posed and preened and played into his hands.
“Tell on,” he coaxed. “Entrust your worries to me.”
Lords Farsway and Winnowind wove sigils in a graceful dance. Only then did their father begin his tale.
