Chapter 223: Lucky
“The villagers …?”
Inuyasha seemed startled. “Safe. And maybe a little surprised about that. I guess our offer seemed too good to be true.”
“They expected treachery, yet walked into the trap?”
“They were desperate and took a risk.” Inuyasha smirked sadly. “They’re lucky it was us.”
“There is no trouble?”
“Nope.” His brother looked away.
“Why did you come?”
Inuyasha’s ears pricked and dipped. “Just the usual.”
Sesshoumaru waited.
“Keh. Does this protection thing work both ways? It’s almost time.”
So that was it. A few days here and a few days there had added up. “The new moon.”

I understand from a story point why Takahashi did the New Moon thing for Hanyos (for Inuyasha in specific – drama for him and Kagome!), but its the most annoying flaw ever at times. Like its not enough Inuyasha has to worry about going berserker bc of his blood, but here you go kids, also have this issue…I do wonder if it eventually peters out? Like If a Hanyo and a human get together, they have a kid that is now only 25% demon, so are they as affected? And if the Kid gets together with a human, that makes their kid what? 12%ish demon? at what point does the New Moon stop being an issue for Hanyos…(sorry that’s been weighing on me for a bit, even though I know Takahashi clearly didn’t plot that far out in her world building)

In 4thy head-canon, a hanyou’s weakness is unique to the individual. Inuyasha’s weakness is the new moon because that’s the night he was born. If I was messing around more in Takahashi’s universe, I’d give different circumstances to every hanyou as part of their youkai birthright.

This adds just the right touch of vulnerability to our brash hanyou.
