Eye Test

Jacques shook his head.

Tsk.” Argent took his hand and traced something onto his palm. “Can you see him now?”

“Who?”

“The Ephemera in Sinder’s hands.”

Non.”

With a sweep, Argent banished the initial mark and traced another. “And now?”

Jacques was honestly more interested in having his hand held. “Oui?”

Argent huffed. “We know you can see me.”

Chastened, Jacques checked Sinder’s hand. “Non.”

Another sweep of skin across skin. Argent blandly inquired, “Are you even trying?”

Jacques was tempted to feign blindness, but any thought of ploys vanished when he glimpsed a fantastical lizard, seemingly armored in mother-of-pearl.
