Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially those off-scene but influential women.

Entirely Reasonable
“It’s not my place to make demands,” Jacques muttered.
Gingko lightly pointed out, “Tsumiko’s the one Dad’s out to impress.”
“When it comes to wives, hell hath no fury,” joked Michael.
“Nor heaven such glory,” smoothly interjected Argent, startling them all.
Jacques flinched. “My apologies, my lord. Last night is something of a blur.”
“Am I then exempt from the remainder of your demands?”
“If they were unreasonable.”
“Far from it. And most have already been arranged for. This way, Smythe.”
Jacques was hungry. He wanted coffee. But Argent had taken him by the hand, and he wanted that more.
