There’s a thing floating around on Twitter (I’m ForthWrites there, too, if you care to follow me), and I’m posting it here, too. For every time you “like” my tweet, I’ll yield an answer. Some of them may even be interesting.

I’ll copy my answers into comments here for those who don’t lurk the social media circuit. If you have a “better” question for me, ask away. It never hurts to ask, right? ::twinkle::

  1. 1. Age you started writing. ✨ Oh, sure. I wish I could say I was writing stories as soon as I could hold a crayon, but I was too busy *reading* books to entertain the notion of writing one. I started writing at the tender age of thirty. (Are you doing math now? Are you?)

  2. 2. Pen name. ✨ That’s a cinch, since you’re lookin’ at it. I have been “forthright” ever since I stumbled into fandom, which is a story in and of itself.

  3. 3. Genre(s). ✨ I mostly write fantasy & adventure with romantic inclinations. In fandom circles, I’m known for alt. shipping (pick a pairing, any pairing, and I’ll make you ship it, too!) and for keeping things T-rated. Hey, didja know the Amaranthine Saga is YA? #amwriting

  4. 4. Favorite writing spot. ✨ Hnn. It has changed over the years. And it’s still changing, mostly with my mood. Since I work from a laptop, I can migrate to spots throughout my home. The only thing these spots have in common is … a place to put up my feet. Ah, blessed tuffet.

  5. 5. One weird thing on your desk. ✨Let’s go with “on & around” my desk, since the quirkiest stuff is on a pin board. A yellow backpack that fits in the palm of my hand, a chunk of pink crystal, a chocolate frog (still in original box), a Totoro mug, & an hourglass w/ aqua sand.

  6. 6. Long-term writing goal. ✨ I would really, really, really like to finish everything I’ve started (both fandom fics & original series). That would give me tremendous satisfaction. A job well done.

  7. 7. Day job. ✨ This may come as something of a shock, but I am (dun, dun, dun) an author. I also do laundry, dust bookshelves, and make a mean bowl of curry. But I spend most of my day, every day, reading & writing. (Aaand watching anime.) I love my job.

  8. 8. Most difficult scene/project you’ve written. ✨ Fandom-wise, I wrote a oneshot for an old LJ community (iy_blind). My friend Max wrote a decoy fic in my usual style, and I played with “darker” themes. We were curious if I could hold my own against my pseudo-self.

    • NOTE: There was no room in the tweet to explain that the mods at iy_blind posted entries without revealing the author’s name until after the voting phase concluded. My entry can be found on my IY fandom account. It’s a Souta-centric fic called BLIND FAITH.

  9. 9. Favorite time of day to write. ✨ Early morning. I can achieve beautiful focus before sunrise, so when I’m on deadline, my alarm’s perpetually set for 4am.

  10. 10. Favorite writing beverage. ✨ I do like a hot latte when I need a caffeine boost, but I mostly drink tea. Hot in winter, iced in summer. When I’m out and about (in other words, *not* writing) I’ll splurge on Vietnamese coffee or a boba smoothie.

  11. 12. Best part of the writing process. ✨ My favorite part comes during the “word sprint” phase. While I’m churning out scenes, my initial plans inevitably shift, coalesce, and blindside me with surprises even *I* didn’t see coming. Those “whoa!” moments are the absolute best.

  12. 14. What comes first? Character, plot, premise, etc. ✨ Premise, mostly. I take an interesting scenario and bring characters into it. They in turn give shape & substance to my original concept, sometimes changing it by the sheer force of their personalities. #amwriting

  13. 15. Who supports your ambitions? ✨ I don’t talk about my fandom adventures IRL, so YOU are the ones cheering me on—with comments and reviews, with questions and speculations, with squees and glomps and the occasional gift of fanart. (I love my readers.)

  14. 16. Type or handwrite? ✨ I swing both ways. Most of my writing happens at the keyboard, especially since I’m such a big fan of word sprints. But at day’s end, I’ll often carry a notebook to bed. The goal: fill two pages before lights out. #amwriting
