LMM 27: Fails to Meet Expectations

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.)  Indulge the lot of us, especially for the one who’s definitely kawaii.

Fails to Meet Expectations

Jacques would have skipped breakfast if Tsumiko hadn’t found his hideaway and taken him by the hand. When she asked a question in Japanese—presumably about his presence in an upper-story linen cupboard—he picked through his scant vocabulary for a word of explanation. “Scary.”

She smiled and offered a slightly different word.

Had he bungled the pronunciation? Jacques tried again.

Tsumiko replied, “Not scary. Cute.”

In the kitchen, they found a beautiful person babbling and trilling over Kyrie. Hardly the thundering portent of death Jacques had been dreading.
