“Coop?” called Ninook. “We go this way.”
Torloo backtracked to where Shilah clung to Coop and took a dominant stance. “Come,” he urged pleasantly. “We will stay in Jiminy’s den.”
“It’s a maze in here,” remarked Coop when they caught up to the others.
“By design,” said Jiminy. “We have our own tricksters. Squirrels, you know.”
“You know better, yet you’re inviting me in?” taunted Shilah.
Jiminy didn’t take offense. “You’re a friend of three packs. Of course you’re welcome.”
The coyote frowned. “I am?”
“May I touch?” asked Jiminy.
Shilah shrank behind Coop’s back.
“I’ll use my words then.”
