Rain pattering down through the trees with enough force that Coop was basically soaked. Pushing dripping hair out of his eyes, he waited for someone to tell him what was going on.

Salali deferred to Resplendence, who eyed the den’s entrance with a grim sort of resignation. Finally she ventured, “Do we dig him out?”

The opening was too small for a full-grown wolf.

“Guess we’re it, Bough.” Coop slid off Torloo’s back and dropped to his knees in the mud.

“Not so hasty!” exclaimed Salali. “He’s cornered!”

Coop didn’t heed the warning, didn’t even hesitate. He just crawled inside.
