Coop wasn’t sure why Torloo and the rest were acting like someone was planning to abscond with him. Chumani was a friend from home. If it was her. Ninook had said he, but his friend was a she. Or… at the very least, that’s how Chumani had presented herself.

They pushed through woods that were tangled enough to be difficult, but nobody suggested taking flight. Maybe there was a reason they couldn’t. Salali worked past thickets that only seemed to grow denser. Then he just… stopped.

Mutt stood over the entrance to a den.

From within came a soft growl.
