Back in My Day
The next morning, Coop reported to the training grounds.
Mirrim took a respectful stance. “Been a while, Mutt.”
“You know him?”
“Sure. From way back.” She stiffly said, “You’re in good hands. Got your signals sorted?”
“Think so.”
Mirrim hesitated, then sighed. “You should know, every time Mutt partners with someone, they excel.”
“That’s great, right?”
“Not necessarily. Battlers hate to lose. I hated losing. Hated what I saw as an unfair advantage.”
“You were a camper here?”
She nodded.
“Okay, but these are just games. I’m playing for fun.”
“They won’t be. But don’t hold back. Digits are earned.”
