Pierre immediately hunted for Giang. “He’s curious about the Grovel.”
Interest lit the other ward’s face. “Should we make an attempt?”
“It’s not against the rules.” Pierre considered Coop. “But can he do it?”
“My instructor said it’s like a puzzle.” Coop shrugged. “I like puzzles. Don’t you?”
Both older boys had been on the trail before and knew what to expect. Getting ready was less about putting the right items in your backpack—though rope made it into Pierre’s kit—and more about the application of sigils.
Coop bared his chest.
Pierre squinted. “What…?”
Giang pointed. “What’s all this?”
