“He used a tracker hand sign,” said one kid.

Another said, “Postures.”

“Wolfsong!”

A girl pointed to the supplies on the table. “Wolf knots.”

Farook nodded. “And the beads themselves. What else?”

Nobody spoke.

Coop thought they were missing something obvious. “Given names. And pack names.”

Torloo beckoned for more.

So Coop added, “Touch. Lots of stuff’s communicated by touch. And sounds that aren’t words. There’s this… grumble, I guess? It’s really comforting.”

Farook’s tail swung high. “Good! What else?”

“Marking fire hydrants.”

Which triggered a horrified silence.

Torloo suggested, “Scent.”

“Umm… yeah,” Coop quickly agreed. “I definitely meant scent.”
