Morning Run

The stars were still bright in the sky when a teenaged version of Harmonious Starmark came to fetch Coop.

Rubbing his eyes, Coop mumbled, “Who’re you?”

“Reveille.”

“Is that a joke?”

With an easy grin, Reveille said, “You’ll start with a morning run.”

Apparently, battlers were early risers.

Instead of Mirrim, another lady waited in the camp’s grassy center circle. “You know the Denholme Split?”

Groans.

“You do! Good. Mirrim’s up top. For today, you can pick your path. Get running. Any first-timers?”

Six other hands lifted.

“My lucky seven, fall in. Time to get the lay of the land!”
