Merl chatted with Coop throughout a tour, getting to know him better. “I will add you to Farook’s class. Also wolf knots, wolfsong appreciation, and… hmm. Moon lore is an advanced course. You are thirteen?”

“Fourteen.”

“In a few years, then.”

As if Coop would be back.

“You will need a partner for the battler games. Unfortunately, you are starting late, and our Kith are already paired off.”

Torloo said, “The Elderbough Kith are also spoken for.”

Coop searched Torloo’s face, which held apology. They couldn’t form a team.

Merl said, “There is another option. We can talk to Mutt.”
