Feelings

Coop woke when the howling started.

He was alone, which was probably bad. Chilled, he pulled a blanket around his shoulders and shuffled out. Boon was there, leaning against the cave’s entrance, tail low.

“Is it Lass?”

“Yeah, kid.” Boon set a hand on his shoulder. “We lost three Kith. Lass hung on longest. Letting go’s never easy, but singing helps us through.”

Coop shivered as more wolves lifted their voices. “Are there words?”

“Some of it translates, sure. But it’s mostly feelings.”

“They sound sad.”

“Guess it might seem that way. But most of that? It’s a love song.”
