Good Manners

Coop couldn’t do that growly rumble thing that Daroo used to soothe. Still, he hummed a low note. His intentions must have translated okay because the young wolf pressed closer, whined softly, and gave in to tears.

His shoulders shook, and his breaths came in odd little hitches and huffs. He snuffled and licked an apology against sticky skin, and Coop wasn’t bothered. It was good manners. For wolves.

“S’okay. Gotchu,” he murmured, feeling glad. Then he crooned a comforting cadence, just the way Daroo had that time when Coop broke his arm.  

“Not bad, kid,” rumbled a new voice.
