Thick in the Air

Vinca’s sisters had turned the Coopers’ dining room into a makeshift surgery. The big table groaned under the weight of a limp wolf. Vinca bustled Rose straight upstairs, but Coop spied his new friend and joined him on the floor.

The poor guy didn’t look too good. Dazed. Drained.

Coop wanted to cheer him up, but that wasn’t possible. So he bumped shoulders and gruffly said, “That was scary, but you found us. Good job.”

The boy turned, wrapping both arms around Coop’s shoulders, burying his nose against his throat. Probably to give him something to smell other than blood.
