Coop 038: Homeward

Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in a certain boy’s adventures because the Amaranthine Saga & Songs are mine. Please continue to indulge the lot of us, especially the one who isn’t a wolf.

Homeward

Coop started comparing Vinca to Chumani. They were nothing alike, but Daroo had mentioned tricksters. For several minutes, he tried to figure out if Vinca might be Chumani. But as she led them along, step light upon the homeward trail, he decided that this lady wasn’t the kind to play tricks.

“Are you from Daroo’s first family?” asked his sister.

“We are friends under your wolf’s protection.”

Rose nodded. “You’re not a wolf.”

Coop already knew Vinca couldn’t be. No tail.

“My sisters and I are part of the Daphollow clan.” She sought Coop’s gaze. “The carrots have been lovely.”

        • You know, you only need to read the 30-odd chapters of Coop again if you want to know who he was buying the carrots for. It’s mentioned. ::twinkle::

            • Let me rummage up the pertinent passage:

“Do you think I could be like him?”
Suuzu’s head came up and angled sharply. “Who?”
“Sedge-sensei.” Akira waved a hand. “He’s short like me, but he holds his head high. And everyone treats him with so much respect.”
His best friend absently rearranged Akira’s hair. “You lack his dignity. And his posture is a practical necessity.”
Sedge Daphollow was a member of one of the deer clans, as evidenced by the graceful set of antlers crowning his head. Akira supposed they did contribute to his bearing. They were probably heavy.
Suuzu’s narrow gaze hadn’t wavered. “I was not aware you craved respect.”
              Akira blinked. “I don’t.”
              “What do you want?”
“Usually, I want to be taller.”
