Half an eternity later, Coop left off reading aloud. There was a far-off look on Rose’s face, like she was listening to something other than their book. It figured, since Rose took after Dad. She had a starry soul. Which meant she was sorta… sensitive. Picking up on things Coop never noticed. Because those stars in her soul connected her to the Amaranthine. Up until now, that’d been Daroo.
“Someone’s coming,” she whispered.
Coop wondered if he should cry for their wolf again. “Who?”
“Someone new.” Rose pushed closer, but her soft answer sounded more amazed than anything. “Someone kind.”
