“I’m fine,” Coop quickly assured. “He’s not.”

Daroo’s growl rattled the very air, which might have frightened anyone who wasn’t used to wolves. But the other boy? He whined in relief. Or maybe it was a plea.

“My den is yours, Kindred. Coop, get them safe behind our barrier. I’ll guide the rest.” Transforming into a wolf, he leapt away. Moments later, a long, keening note rose.

Coop knew that one. Daroo had told him it meant time to come home.

“Need to add anything to that?” Coop checked.

The boy shook his head, shuffled closer, and finally spoke. “Hurry.”
