Blackberry Thicket
Early the next morning, Coop took to the woods, his thoughts wandering, going over possible plans. He should check the salt lick after all that rain. The creek was too swollen for fishing. Daroo might like rabbit stew.
Suddenly, Coop was staring across a blackberry thicket at a boy who was carrying a big, limp wolf. Definitely Amaranthine. His eyes were wide and wild, and his teeth were bared in warning.
Blood stained fur, dripping onto the ground.
That wolf was hurt. Bad.
A rough shout. An answering call.
Strangers in their woods? Pursuers.
Coop made the handsign for follow.
