Wild Child
Coop knew Dad would worry, but he liked being in the woods when it was really whipping up a storm. “Can I stay a while longer?”
Daroo took his time weighing the matter, then said, “If you use my den.”
“Overnight?” he coaxed.
This time, Daroo had an answer ready. “Once you’re settled, I’ll let your Dad know. May I invite him and Rose?”
“Yeah! Of course!” Coop wasn’t looking for time alone. Just more time here, among wind-wild trees. And in Daroo’s den, where a crackling fire, lamplight, and sleeping furs meant he could be a little wild, too.
