Coop’s voice cracked when he asked, “Where’re we going?”
With a little half-smile, his dad came through. “Wardenclave.”
He whooped and lunged.
Dad caught him and hugged him tight. “The world’s bigger than our backyard. Who knows? Maybe someday you’ll be a diplomat.”
“You think I’m diplomatic?”
“Well… no.”
Coop snorted. “Yeah, me neither.”
“I think if you’re restless, then you’re ready for more. I wouldn’t be much of a teacher if I didn’t help you pursue your interests.”
“Even though I’m not a reaver?”
Dad mumbled an apology against his hair.
Rose had Dad’s same shine.
But not Coop.
