Behind the Hedgerow
People in Pine Hall didn’t know that Drew Hunter, local lawyer, was actually Daroo-fen Clearsong, an Amaranthine from the wolf clans. Coop had overheard enough to know that Daroo wasn’t planning to announce the truth.
Coop pulled the wagon past the hedgerow, where Beast shifted into speaking form—tall, tanned, and tail wagging.
After sending Rose off to find Dad, Daroo shouldered one of the mesh bags.
Coop hefted the other but didn’t move toward the back yard. “Hey, Daroo? What are we?”
Brows arching, he said, “I need more context.”
“What am I to you? What’re you to me?”
