Coop switched his hold so he could walk backward. “Doing good?”

“I was just thinking.” Rose opened big brown eyes. “It’s almost Father’s Day.”

“You’re right. Guess we need a plan.”

She squirmed into a receptive posture and asked, “What about Daroo?”

“You know he’d help us if we asked.”

“No, I mean… shouldn’t we get Daroo a Father’s Day present, too?”

Coop let the wagon creak to a stop. “But Dad’s our dad.”

“Daroo loves us just as much.” Rose pouted thoughtfully, then pushed silky, brown curls out of her eyes. “I think of him as my other dad.”
