Songs of the Amaranthine is a collection of short stories set in Forthright’s Amaranthine universe. Before the Emergence, the clans were nothing more than whispers and mysteries and legends and lore. But every so often—in out-of-the-way places or shockingly close to home—an unsuspecting person stumbled into a fateful encounter with someone who was decidedly other. An eclectic collection, spanning continents and centuries. Tales of adventure, discovery, friendship, rescue, belonging, and love. Each short story stands alone and can be read in any order.

FAQ – Will there be more of these short stories?
Yes. I have the next set planned. (And by planned, I mean that there’s a vague idea, a clan or two I want to include, and what kind of relationship is involved.) Honestly, I’ll probably keep adding to the collection for as long as there’s interest (that’d by mine & yours). Always digital first. Always in batches of four. Always with the fourth story lending its title to the resulting print anthology.

Fun Fact – Did you notice the chapter titles?
Marked by Stars (Songs of the Amaranthine, #1) has one-word chapter titles. Followed by Thunder (Songs of the Amaranthine, #2) has two-word chapter titles. Dragged through Hedgerows (Songs of the Amaranthine, #3) has three-word chapter titles. (You see where this is headed, right?) However, when I get to the fifth Songs of the Amaranthine title (which I reveal in the anthology’s back matter), we’ll reset & begin again with one-word chapter titles. (These are the kinds of games I play.)

You Might Be Asking Yourself – Are these short stories worth my time?
They are optional, of course. You can enjoy the Amaranthine Saga without ever traipsing off on the rabbit trails offered by the Songs of the Amaranthine stories. But I believe the Songs will enhance your Saga experience. Clan customs. Lore references. Lifestyle differences. Family connections. You’ll probably catch on quicker to what’s happening if you read ALL the things.

FAQ – Will you ever write stories set after the Emergence?
Yes. I have firm plans for a few stories and a jumble of ideas that may or may not happen. The collection will officially be called Amaranthine Interludes. Lord Mettlebright’s Man fits this category and will eventually be published as Amaranthine Interludes, #1. You may also recall the serialized story I’ve promised to post to Patreon once I reach my community goal (400 patrons). Loosely based on the old Amaranthine tale, “The Wolf and the Moon Maiden,” this serial will involve three sisters, twelve pledges, and the long-awaited stirring of a sleeping landmark.” I’m excited for that one.

One Last Thing – Isn’t there supposed to be an audio book?
Yes! Governed by Whimsy: The Anthology is contracted, so you can look forward to Travis Baldree’s narration of all four short stories. Once the recording is scheduled, I should be able to find out the release date. Isn’t it nice to have something to look forward to? ::twinkle::
