Chapter 16: Alone
Sesshoumaru tensed, but Inuyasha only snorted and said, “He’s all yours.”
Then the monk’s hand was there, and the boy knelt before him. Kohaku’s eyes were red, his voice low, his manner frank. “I’ll help with your clothes. Miroku-sama will change your bandages.”
A basin and rags. Seeping flesh. Sesshoumaru watched the monk inspect the damage. An angling cut midway between ankles and knees.
From the spring, Inuyasha called, “Is he healing?”
“Not quickly.” And more softly, “Bear with us, Sesshoumaru-sama.”
Kohaku stole his tatters and relayed news. “We kept Jaken-sama and Rin-chan together; they won’t be lonely.”
Small comfort.

Ah. I thought that they cut him at the knee. Hopefully, it heals more before the intervention. Small comforts indeed. I really need this story to get a little happier soon. You’re killing me.

Really small comfort. He’ll never forgive himself for letting them die 😦

Small comfort, but then this story is built right now on small comforts for him from people he likely never expected (or would have asked for). A Monk, 2 Demon Slayers, A Miko, his half-human brother, and a runt of a demon (sorry Shippo). I doubt anyone could have foreseen such a circumstance.

Based on Ch. 11 with the line “the loss of both his legs”, I figured it meant that his legs had to be amputated or were just blown off from the final attack, but now he has them? Was the “loss” figurative in that they were/are in tattered ruin or did I miss something? I do hope Sesshoumaru starts to get a little break soon. I feel terrible for him.

His loss is quite literal, and I’m not sure why you consider this chapter a contradiction. The cut has always been below the knee, and thanks to Miroku’s inspection, you now know the line along which the double amputation occurred.

Oh, okay. I understand now. Thank you for the clarification. Looking forward to the next chapter!

Small comfort, but comfort nonetheless. And was Kohaku crying?

Small comforts indeed. I don’t think he will see them immediately though. Ugh…that’s going to take a lot of will to heal, does he have that in him right now? I think he is going to have to draw on the faith of those around him. I need some uphill soon. Cheers for updating.
